ARTIST STATEMENT
Through the usage of Twine and YouTube, Below is a choose-your-own-adventure style horror film, with interactive elements and several possible outcomes. In Below, you make the trek down into your basement, and upon finding a strange doll, you begin to experience strange supernatural occurrences. Now, you need to find a way to escape without incurring her wrath.
Growing up, my family's basement had an old, rusty trunk in it. I always wondered what was within, and one day, I snuck downstairs with a friend (just in case) and opened it to see what was inside. Tragically, it was empty. Still, I always figured that would be a good setup for a horror film. Now that I'm making my own films, I took that idea and thought of other works that inspired me. I remembered a YouTuber I admire who created several choose-your-own-adventure pieces, something else I'd always wanted to try. After a few brainstorming sessions and a look back at my old Twine work, the idea for Below fully formed. My intent with this project is to make players think about how they treat something they don't understand.
